RE: Barber Shop etiquite

...The thing that gets me is they no longer shave your neck. They tell me it's because of the "Aids" problem....Funny, mine will shave my neck without any problems. I used to have to ask for it, but now they know me well enough to just do it. We've been going to the same place so long that they've given each of my kids their first hair cut. Now they see that my eldest is going off to college.

RE: University of Maryland-College Park

Check out the neighborhood around it. I work with some NOAA folks there and some areas are not too nice.

RE: KB TOYS

I wondered when KB was going to go under. In our area, they seem to have (had?) very little good stuff and it was all over priced.

RE: Barber Shop etiquite

I like the owner of the shop, he does a great job. When I go in, and there are two other barbers there, is it OK pass on them and wait for the guy I like. ... Did I violate some long standing rule? The barbershop my whole family goes to has about 3-4 different barbers. I think they all do a fine job, but I notice more than once someone (or a few someones) waiting for a particular barber. So when one of the other ones finish, they motion me over to them. I look around to make sure I'm not cutting in line (;)) and then I go to who is open. So waiting for your "favorite" is not out of line (at least at the place I go to).

RE: Utah raises speed limit to 80 mph (in a few places)

I disagree. even at 70 mph many people are exceeding their skill level, and approaching the design limits of their vehicle. The real problem there is delta speed between the fastest and slowest drivers. If everyone is doing 80, no problem, but if some are at 85, and others at 55 (or even 45), it can get "exciting" (and not in a good way). It's like dodging parked cars all over the road at 30-40 mph.

RE: Sling Shot Man

Well, if any of his neighbors have trouble with windows getting knocked out, I bet they know where to look for the culprit.... ;)

RE: Utah raises speed limit to 80 mph (in a few places)

In some of the more open sections of the interstate system (and not just in Utah), the limit should be 80 (or even more). Now one possible problem is according to my BIL (the highway engineer), most interstates are designed for 75 mph, so 80 might actually be too fast for the curves and such.

Don't laugh this could be you someday! Hey! I'll laugh if I want to. Even if I forget why I was laughing.....

RE: destoyed overhang

You speak of a guy with the dump bed up.. Happened in Detroit one of the drivers for the contractor re-doing a freeway "moved" an overpass about six feet that way...We had that happen here a few years ago. Someone had a large crane on the bed of a truck and the crane anchor broke just as it approached a bridge. Moved the bridge about 8 ft or so. There was someone on the bridge at the time and he ended up getting hit by the railing of the bridge. The bridge was scheduled for removal in a month or so, so they just sped up the schedule. That sort of thing has happened in Alabama a few more times when bridges were scheduled for removal, but were destroyed in another way weeks/months before they were scheduled to be removed. We lost two bridges that way in B'ham, both from tanker trucks hitting them.

RE: Anyone using sailboat fuel?

I read the title as "Anyone using sailboats as fuel?". Nope, we sold ours rather than chop it up for fuel....

RE: destoyed overhang

that's great then he decides to go to another hotel...:B sure hope they caught him...I sure hope they got his plate #. Of course, the folks at U-Haul should also notice the damage.

RE: Stealth bomber

Northrup Grumman built the B-2 with a sophisticated fly-by-wire system. Instead of adjusting the flaps through mechanical means, the pilot passes commands on to a computer, which adjusts the flaps. In other words, the pilot controls the computer and the computer controls the steering system. I remember reading about one crash when the computer got confused (some sensor got wet) and more or less flew the airplane into the ground on takeoff. A link to the crash video.

RE: Don't Try this at Home (video)

It was all done with mirrors...... ;) No, really, that was fantastic. As for the "don't try this at home" bit, I don't think I could even get up on the bar, let alone jump....I'd likely break the bar...

RE: Global Light Change Crisis

Why have we been kept in the dark about this, when we still have some light left? Or, is that perhaps part of daylight saving? Daylight Savings Time was just put in by Congress to make it look like they are doing something about the crisis. Congress sheds no extra light on the issue, but they are adding hot air...

RE: Line of Credit

Credit is a tool, not a toy. Just like fire. :)Very good analogies. Both can be very useful and both can "burn you" if you abuse them. Now I expect a post about how someone never uses fire and eats all their food raw. ;)

RE: Global Light Change Crisis

Look folks, this is cyclic. I remember a few months ago, folks were worried about the loss of night and that if projections made at the time were accurate, by December, we would have no night (thereby destroying the science of astronomy). ;)

RE: Oh Alabama!!!???

...As it is, we get to the bowl games and since all significant games played by teams have been in their own conference, we have no idea how powerful a team or even a conference is. Was the Big-12's record breaking offenses a result of superior offensive play or a result of weak defenses? We really never know until the bowl games and they are really not a good indication due to the long layoff between the season end and the bowl games and the party atmosphere of the week leading up to the game. Under the current BCS and bowl system I see no way to improve this. :hThat's why I am for a playoff system (8-16 teams) that start 1 week after the last regular season game (to give each team a week to prepare for their new opponent). Pick the teams for the playoffs the same way they do in college basketball. Give each "major" conference champion a slot and fill the rest with the top BCS rated teams not already in the playoffs. It would actually be more lucrative for the schools, but it would be less money for the bowl organizers, so it ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

RE: Global Warming or Global Cooling?

Paying Taxes is patriotic...Actually, I would say that is a true statement. It is your duty as a citizen of this Republic to pay taxes to support the government (and it's various services/duties) you elected to run this country. Do you actually think we could keep this country going on faith alone?

RE: What do you think of the idea of taxing mileage?

I thought my taxes were already paying for building and repair?Evidently, it's not enough to keep things as they are now. So the choice is simple: more taxes, or fewer and worse roads.
